Bow Tie Block Tutorial !!!!

Let's make some Bow Tie Block Units!

Soooo....I am hosting this swap over on flikr, the Scrappy BowTie Block Swap , and I need to make a bunch of bow ties.  I used  this Canoe Ridge Creations tutorial to make my first several.  Then, as I now have this blog and need some stuff to fill it up with and needed to test my blogger-post-tutorial skills, I came up with this tutorial of my own.  Enjoy!

For each unit you will need...
2-3 1/2" print squares
2 2" print squares
2-3 1/2" white squares

Draw a line from corner to corner of the 2" print square, then sew on the line to a white square....repeat with the other 2" print and white squares.

Trim 1/4" from your sewn line and iron the seam towards the print side.

Sew the 3 1/2" colored squares to the white/print squares and iron open.

Lay both sections out and butt the two center seams together, then sew with a 1/4" seam.

Iron the block open and Voila!  You have one Bow Tie unit!

(a note about my make-shift ironing area...my ironing board has been "put away"  this is my bathroom counter with a Dora the Explorer towel and a dollar store bottle of water and corn starch.  The homemade starch hasn't burned or discolored anything yet!)

Now, cut a bunch of squares, strip piece them to your hearts content, and in a couple of hours you will have....

.....a bunch of Bow Ties ready for your Scrappy Bow Tie Block Swap!

I need 255 for my king size quilt!  I better get to work!

until next time......

Wanna Swap some Scrap?

Oh, how I do hate the scorching heat!  I do not love the days you go outside at 6 am and feel like your head is in the oven.....I feel for my husband, a meter reader, who is trudging around in it every day!  Public service announcement...drink plenty of water and low sugar, decaf drinks.   Get out of the heat as much as you can!   Enough about that, though, it is hotter other places......

Here's some quilter type stuff...over on flikr I am hosting a bow tie block swap.  I call it (this is very creative, now) the Scrappy Bow Tie Block Swap  (told you it was creative, didn't I?)  We are making single unit blocks...some are using different fabrics for each one, some using different sets of fabric.  Here are a few of the ones I have made...

Feel free to come over and join us if you want!  Seasoned swappers and newbies are all welcome!

I have been perusing the blogs of my other flikr swappers ( I am in WAYY too many swaps and bees...) and I have looked at so many tutorials it made my head swim!  I love this Continuous Prarie Point tutorial from sewtakeahike....among others...

I decided to make a tutorial just to see how it goes, I will work on it tomorrow, and hopefully it will be up and ready for your viewing real soon....if I can continue to be patient while these pictures upload!

until next time...

90somethingawful degrees!

Aaaah.  One of my favorite things. . . clothes on the line. . . my sister hates this--really hates this. . . I don't know why.  See, it was 90somethingawful today, with a nice breeze, so I searched the house for all the dirty & threw it in the washer.

The only thing that really likes the heat around here is the garden.   I had a cucumber today . . . .stood right there and ate it. . . can't get fresher than that!

Rejection today. . . it came in the form of a denial to a request to join a Goodie Bag Swap on flikr.  Apparently I am not involved enough (7 bees, 3 completed swaps, moderated two) have not posted enough (48) pictures in too short of a time (since March)  and not enough handmade things (finished quilt and umpteen blocks).  So why is it that I allow a couple of women I have never met tell me I am not good enough and then let it bother me on top of all that?  Hmmm. . . .I guess I will just look at it as an opportunity to save some bucks on postage!

until next time. . . .

Greetings!

Well, I finally did what I have been trying to avoid...starting this blog.  My grammar may not always be correct, and I use "....." way too much......but I would like to share some of the things that I do, enjoy, and think, with you!  You will probably find most of this blog will be about quilting, normal everyday life, and some random things, too!  So let's get acquainted!

First.  DO.

I like to quilt, craft, cook, relax, read.....  This is a quilt made for my SIL with fabric and blocks sent to me from family.  After treatment, she is now in remission!  Wa wa woohoo!  I am also involved with several swaps and bees on flikr......more to come on that!

Second.  ENJOY

I like my kids (and my husband). They are pretty cool.....each one with a distinct personality.  Oldest is the quieter one.....note...... I said quietER, not quiet!  She is the reader, helper, smart little cookie.  Youngest is fiery, loud, sassy, smart and sweet......a lot like her mama!
Third.  THINK

I think everyone should have a clothesline....and use it....
I think summer vacation should be longer for kids.....
I think it should never get below 35 degrees or above 87....
I think people should text less and talk more.....
I think you may have had enough of me for now!

until next time....
